For the second time in as many days, Lemont High School’s baseball team took advantage of standout pitching and a late offensive explosion. Those ingredients led to the program’s second state championship in three seasons. Senior righthander Garrett Acton tossed a complete game shutout, and the Indians were opportunistic offensively in a 10-0, six-inning win over Springfield in the 2016 IHSA Class 3A State Championship at Joliet’s Silver Cross Field. Lemont High School rode an outstanding pitching performance from junior righthander Ryan Sublette and a late offensive outburst to a 10-2 victory over St. Viator in the first semifinal game of the 2016 IHSA Baseball Class 3A State Finals at Joliet’s Silver Cross Field on June 10. Sublette struck out a career-high 14 batters to lift the Indians to their second state title game appearance in three seasons. Lemont (29-9) will face the winner of the Limestone-Springfield state semifinal on Saturday, June 11, in the IHSA Class 3A State Championship. That game will begin immediately after the conclusion of the third-place game, but no later than 11 a.m. due to expected high temperatures. Read More

It would be understandable if fans of Lemont High School’s baseball team had a sense of déjà vu while watching the squad’s IHSA Super-Sectional contest. For the second time in three years, the Indians squared off against De La Salle at Crestwood’s Standard Bank Stadium with a state finals berth on the line. And, just like in 2014, head coach Brian Storako’s team jumped out to a big lead on its way to winning the game and securing a trip to the state finals. Lemont triumphed by a 10-4 score over De La Salle to advance to the 2016 IHSA Class 3A Baseball State Finals, which will be contested at Silver Cross Field in Joliet on Friday, June 10, and Saturday, June 11. Many Lemont High School students put forth standout efforts while participating in national language exams in French, German and Spanish this spring. However, the accomplishments of recent graduates Tristan Druelinger ‘16 and Jacob Gasienica ‘16 certainly stood out. Gasienica became just the second student in school history to earn multiple gold medal honors through the National Spanish Examinations, while Druelinger posted medalist efforts on exams in both French and German. Lemont High School senior Chris Thompson finished as the state runner-up in the 400-meter dash at the 2016 IHSA Class 3A Boys’ Track and Field State Finals, which were contested on the campus of Eastern Illinois University on May 27-28. Thompson not only secured his second state medal in as many seasons, but also posted the program’s best finish in state competition in more than 15 years. Read More

The doubles tandems of juniors Faraz Longi and Peter Rogers and sophomores Charles Balisalisa and Arjun Reddigari made their first state finals appearances at the 2016 IHSA Boys’ Tennis State Finals, which are being contested from May 26-28 and hosted by High School Districts 211 and 214. This is the 11th straight season that head coach Jon DeGuzman’s program has appeared in state finals play, and the first time the program sent two doubles squads to the state finals in the same season. Lemont High School held a Graduation ceremony for its Class of 2016 on Friday, May 27, in the school's Gymnasium. More than 350 students were awarded their diplomas. Read More
