Career and Technical Education
The Lemont High School Career & Technical Education Department believes that students should develop the following characteristics:
• Ability to blend laboratory and classroom instruction
• Understanding of course material in order to achieve mastery in their chosen area
• Knowledge of specific areas of interest in the curricular areas of Business Education, Family and Consumer Science and Industrial Technology
Courses offered within the Career & Technical Education curriculum help students develop skills that are necessary to become productive members of the workforce.
Based on abilities and course level, students are expected to:
• Master skills in their respective areas
• Demonstrate craftsmanship, creativity and job-specific skills
• Develop interpersonal and cooperative skills
• Employ technology to accomplish goals
Grading Standards: Student grades are determined by their level of mastery of skills in their respective areas, in accordance with course requirements.
ARTICULATED CREDIT
A number of Business Education courses afford students the opportunity to earn articulated credit through an agreement with College of DuPage if they receive a B or better in the course. Students apply for articulated credit (and submit a $5 application fee) when registering for classes at College of DuPage; that application must be made within two years of the date of the student’s high school graduation. Students’ articulated credit appears on their College of DuPage transcript after one term at the school; no grade is listed for the course (‘AC’ is listed), but the credit hours may be applied toward a certificate or degree. Earning credits in these courses saves students time and money as they complete their education.
DUAL CREDIT
Some Career & Technical Education courses afford students the opportunity to earn high school and college credit simultaneously, thanks to a dual credit agreement with Joliet Junior College. In essence, students are enrolled at both the high school and community college level at the same time. Earning credits in these courses saves students time and money as they complete their education. Students may choose to attend Joliet Junior College or transfer their earned credits to another institution.
