Special Education Services

The Lemont High School Special Education Services Department believes students should:
• Receive appropriate help
• Develop skills necessary to fulfill goals and objectives identified in their Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
• Work toward becoming a productive member of the community

Courses offered within the Special Services curriculum give each student enrolled the opportunity to work at his or her ability level on those skills that are needed to ensure a successful transition to his or her individual post-high school goal.

Lemont High School provides, either directly or in conjunction with other agencies, several special education programs and services for students. Academic programs and services are available for a variety of purposes, which include:
• Moderate or severe mental impairment
• Physical impairment
• Multiple impairment
• Vision and hearing impairments
• Learning disabilities
• Behavior disorders

Services may be provided through in-school programs and services, home and hospital instruction, private school placements or special education cooperative classroom placement. All programs and services are offered in accordance with the document “Rules and Regulations to Govern the Administration and Operation of Special Education.” Parents or guardians may obtain a copy of this document from the school's Director of Special Education Services.

Grading Standards: Grades reflecting student performance are determined by criteria established at an annual review meeting. Each student’s progress and goals are evaluated by the multi-disciplinary team in accordance with the student’s IEP.
