FAMILY ACCESS

FROM THE OFFICE OF

Dr. Mary Ticknor

Pending legislation in the Illinois House of Representatives could remove nearly $2 million annually from Lemont schools. As the superintendent of one of your local school districts, it is my responsibility to educate you about this potential legislative action, the repercussions that it would have on school district budgets, and most importantly, the impact it would have on the students that we serve. Computer Labs

Technology is a cornerstone of every Lemont High School student's education, and the school includes a number of computer labs for students to utilize, either individually before or after school or as part of a class during the school day.

Lemont High School has more than 850 networked computers throughout the building, including at least one in every classroom. There are eight main computer labs on campus, as well as several "mini labs." The school also employs wireless PC tablets in selected departments.

Please note that all students and staff who use the school's computer network must abide by its Technology Use Policy. All users of the school's computer network are representatives of Lemont High School and should act accordingly. Violating the Technology Use Policy results in consequences, which may include, but are not limited to, loss of access to the school's computer network.

Teachers may sign up to use one of the school's computer labs, as well the Writing Center, the LRC or departmental mobile carts, by clicking here.

Staffed by Lemont High School teachers and selected upper-level students, the Math Center provides students the opportunity to get extra help, ask questions on assignments, practice problems in areas in which they need assistance, and study for quizzes and tests.

The Math Center is open to any student during its designated periods, but students may not leave other classes for assistance.

Located in W311, the Math Center is open daily during designated periods. Additionally, it is available from 7:20-7:50 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; from 7:45-8:30 a.m. on Wednesdays; and from 2:45-3:15 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays.

Solar Panel

Thanks to a grant received through the Illinois Clean Energy Foundation, Lemont High School was able to install a solar panel on campus in Summer 2009. The panel is located in the school's courtyard, and provides students with important information and good "real-life" experiences with renewable energy. The solar panel generates electricity that the school is able to use, and also offsets carbon dioxide emissions.

Data from the solar panel is collected electronically and posted to an Illinois Solar Schools Web site that monitors its numbers.
