The Lemont High School English Department has chosen its required summer reading selections, as well as its “One Book, One School” choice, for the 2013-14 school year. Every Lemont High School student is required to read the “One Book, One School” selection over the summer, and prior to next fall, students will read Divergent, written by Veronica Roth.

Halfway through his high school career, Lemont High School sophomore Nick Urban has shown he’s nothing if not consistent. For two straight years, he has won the No. 1 singles flight at the South Suburban Conference Tournament while leading his team to a conference championship. For two straight years, he has emerged from a highly competitive sectional to earn a state finals berth. And now, for the second time in as many years, Urban has finished among the top 32 singles players in the state after winning three of five matches at the 2013 IHSA Boys’ Tennis State Finals. Lemont’s boys’ tennis program has been represented in state finals competition eight straight seasons.

Lemont High School held a Graduation ceremony for its Class of 2013 on Friday, May 24, in the school's Gymnasium. More than 350 students were awarded their diplomas.

Prior to the 2011 season, Lemont High School had not advanced a boys’ tennis player past the first day of state finals competition. Now, the Indians have done it three straight seasons. Sophomore Nick Urban won two of three matches on the first day of competition at the 2013 IHSA Boys’ Tennis State Finals, which are being hosted by High School Districts 211 and 214. Urban will continue play in the tournament’s consolation bracket on Friday, May 24, and is guaranteed to finish among the top 32 singles players in the state. This marks the eighth straight season that Lemont has been represented in the IHSA Boys’ Tennis State Finals.

Four Lemont High School students were honored with May “Student of the Month” accolades at the district’s Board of Education meeting on May 21. Included among the honorees were senior Monica Butler (Guidance), junior Alex Jaeger (Special Education), sophomore Kyle Kowalski (Driver Education) and freshman Jeremy Fejedelem (Health).

Lemont High School senior running back Chris Giatras (5’11”, 205) has committed to playing college football at Augustana (Ill.) College beginning in Fall 2013. Giatras is the fifth football player from Lemont’s Class of 2013 to finalize his plans to play collegiately.

Two Lemont High School seniors have committed to playing men’s soccer at the collegiate level beginning in Fall 2013. Forward Tommy Gasienica will play at the Illinois Institute of Technology, while defender Ray Stieber will play at Calvin (Mich.) College. The two join defender Kyle Hamann (University of Illinois-Chicago) as members of the school’s Class of 2013 who will play college men’s soccer.
