Lemont High School’s cheerleading squad improved its performance on the second day of state finals competition, as a mistake-free performance earned the Indians a third-place finish in the Medium Division of the 2012 IHSA Cheerleading State Finals, which were contested at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, Ill. Lemont improved by two places on the second and final day of competition to earn its seventh straight state trophy.

Lemont High School’s cheerleading program still is in the hunt for a fourth consecutive state title, thanks to a solid first-day performance in the Medium Division of the 2012 IHSA Cheerleading State Finals. Head coach Brittany Glowa’s Indians were fifth among Medium Division teams on the first day of competition, earning them a spot in the event’s final round, which will be contested at U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, Ill., on Saturday, February 4.

For the third straight year, a team from Lemont High School has placed among the top performing squads at one of the area’s top robotics competitions. Seniors Travis Burke and Kyle Tulipano and juniors Szymon Krzeptowski-Mucha and Bryan Shamasko teamed to finish as the runner-up in the ‘Expert Division’ at the 2012 Joliet Junior College Robotic Engineering Challenge on January 27. The competition included some of the top teams from several area schools and vocational centers.

Serving as host of the inaugural Central Northern Area Conference regional on January 21, Lemont High School’s chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) dominated the competition, taking first place in 15 of the 23 events it entered. Lemont collected 30 top-three finishes in all, and now is looking forward to competing at the 2012 Illinois FBLA State Leadership Conference in Decatur, Ill., on March 30-31.
