“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” GALLERY 306 opening set for November 2-4

11/1/2017

Everyone’s favorite candy man - Willy Wonka - will be joined by many other classic characters on Lemont High School’s Performing Arts stage. The Drama Club’s fall play - “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” - will be featured from November 2-4. In conjunction with the fall play, the school’s Art Department will be featuring its inaugural exhibit in “GALLERY 306.”

The production of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” is set to run in the school’s Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. nightly. Tickets may be purchased at the door, and are $10 for adults and $7 for children, senior citizens and students with a valid school ID. Students, faculty and staff also may purchase tickets during lunch periods beginning Monday, October 30.

The inaugural exhibit in “Gallery 306” is a juried student art show. “GALLERY 306” will be open from 5:45-6:45 p.m. nightly from November 2-4, and will spotlight a variety of outstanding work from Lemont High School students.

Richard R. George adapted Roald Dahl’s classic novel, in which five lucky children are invited to attend a grand tour of the secretive Wonka Chocolate Factory and are hosted by none other than Willy Wonka. The story centralizes around one humble boy, Charlie Bucket, as he watches the magic of the factory unfold before his very eyes, with chocolate rivers, pink candy boats, three-course meal gum, nut professional squirrels, and shrinking machines.

“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” will be performed under the direction of Paula Smith, with Leslie Kane serving as the assistant director.

Those planning to attend any performance of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” may park in the school’s parking garage or in the lot outside the Performing Arts Center; both are accessible off of Julia Street. Patrons for Saturday’s show should plan to arrive early and allow for extra time to park, as Lemont’s football team is hosting an IHSA Playoff game at 6 p.m.
