Lemont High School music department to serve up two holiday concerts

The Lemont High School music department invites the community to jingle down to the school’s Performing Arts Center as it spreads some holiday cheer with two upcoming holiday concerts. The concerts, which will be held on Thursday, December 7, and Thursday, December 14, will feature different levels of the school’s band and the choir. Both concerts will begin at 7 p.m., with the doors opening for general seating at 6:30 p.m.

On December 7, members of the band and choir will form numerous small ensembles to put on a “Prism” concert. The December 14 event will feature both the bands and choir in a more traditional concert, with the ensembles performing full group numbers.

Lemont High School’s bands are under the direction of Matt Doherty and Dave Nommensen, while Stephanie Cesaroni leads the choirs. The band and choral programs will perform a range of selections over the two events.

The “Prism” show on December 7 will offer both music written for the genre as well as a myriad of holiday favorites, and will feature an array of small student-led ensembles - including percussion, vocal, brass, woodwind, and mixed instrument duets, trios, quartets and quintets. The audience will be treated to a continuous stream of performance, “fusing” the music of several ensembles into a continuous stream of sound. Special lighting effects will add to the event, providing those in attendance with a sampling of the very best the school’s music department has to offer.

Fresh off its December 4 performance at the Chicago Symphony Center, the combined Concert Band will perform several performances at the December 14 concert, including “Illumination” by David Maslanka, “A Longford Legend” by Robert Sheldon, Eric Whitacre’s “The Seal Lullaby” and “Ukranian Bell Carol” arranged by Richard Saucedo.

The Choir is slated to perform “Jingle Bells” arranged by Ray Charles, “Cool Yule” arranged by Kirby Shaw, and Morten Lauridsen’s “Dirait-on.” The A Cappella Choir will entertain with “Mary Did You Know” arranged by Pentatonix, as well as Kirby Shaw’s “Jamaican Noel.” The concert finale will feature all of the choir and band students teaming for their annual fan favorite sing along performance of Leroy Anderson’s “A Christmas Festival.”

Admission to either concert is free, but attendees are encouraged to bring a canned good or paper good, which will in turn be donated to local food pantries.
