Lemont’s newest Athletic Hall of Fame members set for Sept. 16 induction

The newest members of Lemont High School’s Athletic Hall of Fame will be introduced at a ceremony on Sunday, September 16, at Crystal Grand Banquets in Lemont. Included among the hall of fame’s 14th induction class will be Rhonda (Anderson) Campagna ‘94, Cindy (Bromberek) Schuit ‘88, Angel Cabral ‘10, Brenda (Holford) Smith ‘81 and Lisa (Holford) Lafary ‘85.

The 2018 Lemont High School Athletic Hall of Fame Ceremony will begin with a reception at noon on September 16. Lunch will be served at 12:45 p.m., with the induction ceremony beginning at approximately 1:30 p.m. Crystal Grand Banquets is located at 12416 S. Archer Avenue in Lemont.

Tickets are $25 each; reservations must be made through the Lemont High School Athletic Department by Wednesday, September 12. To make a reservation, call the athletic department at (630) 243-3207.

The Lemont High School Athletic Hall of Fame was established in 2004, and provides an opportunity for the school to recognize alumni, coaches, parents and community members for outstanding athletic accomplishments and extraordinary support.

Lemont High School is seeking nominations for potential future Athletic Hall of Fame inductees. Nominations are accepted in one of four categories - Athlete, Coach, Parent/Community Member or Pride of Lemont. All nominees must be of good character, reflecting the qualities and ideals set forth in the school’s Athletic Code of Conduct. Nominees in the ‘Athlete’ category are not eligible for induction to the Athletic Hall of Fame until five years after their graduation from the school.

RHONDA (ANDERSON) CAMPAGNA ‘94 – Played volleyball, basketball and softball, totaling 10 varsity letters .. earned four varsity volleyball letters .. .two-time All-Southwest Suburban Conference volleyball honoree ... served as a volleyball team captain and was cited as the team’s “Best Hitter” as both a junior and senior ... all-area volleyball player ... earned three varsity basketball letters ... two-time basketball all-conference honoree ... served as a basketball team captain as a junior in 1993 ... earned three varsity softball letters ... cited to the All-Southwest Suburban Conference Academic Team four straight years ... Class Valedictorian ... Illinois State Scholar ... National Honor Society inductee ... elected as the Homecoming Queen as a senior in 1993 ... cited with U.S. Army Reserve National Scholar-Athlete and U.S. Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete awards ... played for Sports Performance Volleyball Club ... earned a scholarship to play volleyball at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and earned four letters ... helped the team to a 25-5 record and a share of the Midwestern Collegiate Conference regular-season title as a senior in 1997 ... four-time Scholar-Athlete Award winner at UW-Milwaukee ... three-time Faculty Representative Award winner for posting the highest GPA ... member of the MCC Honor Roll in both 1996 and 1997.

CINDY (BROMBEREK) SCHUIT ‘88 – Played volleyball, basketball and softball, totaling nine varsity letters ... earned four varsity softball letters, helping the team to a composite 83-28 record ... three-time All-Northeast Conference softball player who set a school career record with 84 walks ... team captain who helped her team to a 29-7 record and an IHSA Class A State Runner-Up finish as a senior in 1988 ... team also won IHSA Regional and IHSA Sectional titles in 1988 ... tabbed to IHSA Class A All-Tournament Team ... established school single-season records with 10 home runs and 30 walks in 1988, earning team MVP and all-area accolades ... also helped the softball team to a 19-2 record, as well Northeast Conference and IHSA Regional titles, in 1987 ... Lemont won IHSA Regional and IHSA Sectional titles and advanced to the IHSA Class A Elite 8 in 1985 ... three-time basketball letterwinner ... team captain and all-conference honoree in basketball ... helped her team to a 22-4 record, as well as Northeast Conference and IHSA Regional titles, in 1987 ... earned two volleyball letters ... team captain who earned team MVP and all-conference honors as a senior in 1987 ... helped the volleyball team to a 26-4 record and a Northeast Conference title as a junior in 1986 ... ANGEL CABRAL ‘10 – Earned multiple varsity letters in both football and wrestling ... two-time IHSA Class 2A Wrestling State Champion at 285 pounds ... posted a 63-9 career varsity record ... became the first wrestler in school history to win multiple state titles when he won as a senior in 2010 ... finished with a 38-2 record as a senior, winning South Suburban Conference and IHSA Regional titles ... helped Lemont to a 23-3 dual record and SSC, IHSA Regional and IHSA Sectional crowns ... won three matches to help Lemont to a third-place finish at the 2010 IHSA Class 2A Dual Team State Finals ... became the first wrestler in school history to win an individual state title as a junior in 2009 ... pinned all three state finals opponents in 2009, and was the only IHSA Class 2A wrestler to win by fall in a title match that year ... finished with a 25-7 record in 2009, winning IHSA Regional and IHSA Sectional titles ... helped the team to its first-ever IHSA Wrestling Team State Finals berth in 2009, as well as to IHSA Regional and IHSA Sectional crowns ... three-year starter as a defensive lineman (2007-09) ... totaled 148 tackles (80 solo) and 10 sacks over three seasons ... helped Lemont to a composite 34-6 record, including two SSC Blue titles and two IHSA Class 6A Runner-Up finishes ... earned All-SSC honors as a senior in 2009 when he collected 54 tackles and seven sacks, as Lemont went 10-2 and advanced to the IHSA Class 6A Quarterfinals ... totaled 55 tackles as a junior in 2008 as Lemont finished 13-1, won the SSC Blue, set a school record for wins in a season, and finished as the IHSA Class 6A Runner-Up ... had 39 tackles as a sophomore in 2007 as Lemont went 11-3 and finished as the IHSA Class 6A Runner-Up ... played football at College of DuPage and was part of a team that won the 2010 Graphic Edge Bowl ... embarked on a career as an MMA fighter, training with Jackson Wink MMA ... served as a volunteer wrestling coach at Lemont High School.

BRENDA (HOLFORD) SMITH ‘81 – Four-year basketball player for Hall of Fame coach Bill Bozue ... became the first girls’ basketball player in school history to record 1,000 career points ... earned multiple All-Northeast Conference and all-area accolades ... tabbed as the Joliet area’s “Best Female Athlete” ... set single-game records for both field goals made (18) and points (39) that still stand today ... set single-season records with 240 field goals and 537 points and led the Northeast Conference in rebounding as a junior in 1980 ... helped Lemont to a 23-6 record, a Northeast Conference title, and a third-place finish in the IHSA Class A Tournament in 1980 ... the 1980 team became the first program in school history – boys or girls – to win an IHSA state trophy, and set a school record for wins (since broken) ... cited as a second-team Associated Press All-Tournament pick, and a first-team IHSA Class A All-Tournament selection ... earned multiple Chicago Tribune Athlete of the week honors in her career ... also participated two seasons in both soccer and softball, and one season each in track and field and volleyball ... earned a basketball scholarship to Marycrest College.

LISA (HOLFORD) LAFARY ‘85 – Played four seasons of basketball and volleyball ... helped Hall of Fame coach Bill Bozue’s basketball teams to a composite 77-8 record over her final three seasons, which included three Northeast Conference titles ... member of the 1,000-point club, and set school career records for rebounds (819) and free throws (497) ... three-time All-Northeast Conference selection ... earned Illinois Basketball Coaches Association all-state accolades and was a Class A North All-Star as a senior in 1985 ... team captain and team MVP who averaged 21.4 points, 13.5 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 4.2 steals per game as a senior ... Lemont went 24-2 and won a Northeast Conference championship in 1985 ... tabbed as the Joliet Herald News “Player of the Year” and was cited to multiple all-area squads ... helped Lemont to a 27-3 record as a junior in 1984, as the program established a single-season school record for wins ... Lemont won Northeast Conference, IHSA Regional, IHSA Sectional and IHSA Super-Sectional titles, and advanced to the IHSA Class A Elite 8 ... set a school single-season record with 317 rebounds in 1984 ... was a member of a team that went 26-3 and won the Northeast Conference title in 1983 ... earned multiple Chicago Tribune Athlete of the Week honors in her career ... awarded the U.S. Army National Scholar-Athlete Academic & Athletic Excellence Scholarship ... honor roll student ... earned a basketball scholarship to Western Illinois University.
