5/22/2019

Lemont's boys' tennis state qualifiers include (clockwise, from top left) seniors Shaan Pal and Nathan Pawlak and junior Max Celis.

Thanks to solid performances at the IHSA Montini Catholic Sectional, Lemont High School’s boys’ tennis program will be represented in state finals competition for the 13th time in 14 years. Head coach Jon DeGuzman’s squad advanced entries in both singles and doubles to the 2019 IHSA Class A Boys’ Tennis State Finals, which will be contested from May 23-25 and hosted by High School Districts 211, 214 and 220. Junior Max Celis will compete in singles, while the tandem of seniors Shaan Pal and Nathan Pawlak will participate in doubles. All three will be making their state finals debuts.

Celis, who will enter the state finals with a 10-12 record, placed fourth in singles; he clinched his state finals berth by winning his first two sectional contests. Celis finished second in singles at the South Suburban Conference-Blue Division this season.

The tandem of Pal and Pawlak won its first two sectional contests as well, then triumphed in the third-place match. The duo, which placed second at the SSC Blue Meet, enters the state finals with an 18-6 record.
