Lemont’s Hanna Dworkin tabbed as winner in Congressional Art Competition

6/5/2019

Lemont High School junior Hanna Dworkin is congratulated by Congressman Dan Lipinski after learning she won the 2019 Congressional Art Competition.

Lemont High School junior Hanna Dworkin has been named the winner of the 2019 Congressional Art Competition for Illinois’s Third Congressional District. Congressman Dan Lipinski presented Dworkin with her award. Her submission will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for the next year, alongside winning pieces from congressional districts across the country.

Dworkin is the third Lemont student to win the Congressional Art Competition. Brook Finger ‘16 earned the honor in Lipinski’s district in 2015, while Krystal Sokolis ‘08 was tabbed as the winner in former Congresswoman Judy Biggert’s 13th Congressional District in 2008.

Dworkin’s painting – “Illinois’s Pride” – is a portrait depiction of President Abraham Lincoln. The painting not only will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol, but Dworkin also will receive two roundtrip tickets for a student art exhibition in Washington, D.C. that features winning artwork from districts across the country.

The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents.
