Lemont High School senior Sarah Pawelko has signed a National Letter of Intent to play women’s soccer at Ball State University beginning next fall.
Pawelko is the second student-athlete from her family to earn a scholarship to play women’s soccer at the NCAA Division I level. Kelli Pawelko ‘08 recently finished up her sophomore year at the University of Cincinnati, where she started 18 of 19 games for the Bearcats.
For the last two seasons, Pawelko has elected to play club soccer in lieu of playing for Lemont’s girls’ soccer program, though she plans to play for head coach Rick Prangen’s team this spring. The midfielder has been a long-time member of the Chicago Magic and Eclipse Select clubs, and has been a part of several successful club teams.
This spring, Pawelko plans on joining a Lemont girls’ soccer program that is coming off a runner-up finish at the 2009 IHSA Class 2A Girls’ Soccer State Finals.
A high honor roll student, Pawelko joins a Cardinals squad that whose roster included just one senior last fall. Head coach Michael Lovett was not retained at the end of the 2009 season, but the Ball State athletic department is on the verge of naming a new head women’s soccer coach soon. Last year, Ball State went 4-13-1, and tied for ninth in the Mid-American Conference standings with a 2-8-1 league record.
