Four Lemont High School students earned top honors in their category at the 2010 Chicago Architecture Today “Midwest Creative Architecture Competition,” which culminated with an awards ceremony at the Illinois Institute of Technology’s Rice Campus in Wheaton on Saturday, March 6. Seniors Alberto Avalos, Cody Bengtson, Samantha Nelson and Scott Paloian teamed for an honor in the “Scale Model” category.
The theme for this year’s competition is “The Form, Function and Future of Fast Food Facilities.” Submissions were on display in the auditorium at the Rice Campus from February 24 through the awards ceremony. The entry submitted by Avalos, Bengtson, Nelson and Paloian was a scale model of a fast food restaurant, and reflected their vision of the future of fast food facilities.
An entry submitted by seniors Camil Machaj, Jerry Murphy and Tim Rekruciak was also nominated for an award in the “Scale Model” division and was on display at IIT’s Rice Campus.
All of the honorees are enrolled in teacher Scott Duensing’s Advanced CAD III Honors course.
Chicago Architecture Today’s yearly competition is the premiere design contest for high school students in the Midwest, with entries from as many as 10 states competing in 10 categories. Each division awards the top three finishers from each state, as well a regional winner. Additional information on this year’s competition may be found at
