Lemont finishes third in IDEA Regional, two students take top honors

For the third straight year, a Lemont High School student has earned first-place honors in the Illinois Drafting Educators Association (IDEA) Regional Drafting Competition. However, for the first time, Lemont can boast two individual winners in the same year, as seniors
Mark Kaminski and
Kathy Sitko each finished first in their respective divisions at the IDEA Regional at Joliet Junior College on March 5. Both students qualified to compete at the IDEA State Drafting Competition at Illinois State University on April 24.
Kaminski won in the Architectural Board division, where his challenge was to design and/or draw specified views, details or sections within a three-hour period using provided materials, specifications and drawings. Sitko was tops in the Introductory Board category, where she was given 90 minutes to draw specified views of a given drawing problem; she also was administered a one-hour written test.
A number of Joliet area high schools - and a record-number 131 students overall - competed in eight divisions at the IDEA Regional at Joliet Junior College, which was one of 20 regional sites across the state. All first- and second-place finishers earned the right to compete in the IDEA State Finals. Competitions are held in Introductory Board, Introductory CAD, Architectural Board, Architectural CAD, Machine Board, Machine CAD, 3D Architectural (CAD Modeling), and Solids (CAD Modeling).

As a team, Lemont finished third overall in the IDEA Regional, its best finish ever. Kaminski and Sitko were joined on Lemont’s third-place squad by seniors

In 2008,
Ryan Strauss ‘08 became the first Lemont student to win an IDEA Regional title, doing so in the 3D Architectural CAD Modeling category, and
Nick Lawrence ‘09 won in the same division last year.
