FROM THE OFFICE OF

Dr. Mary Ticknor

Pending legislation in the Illinois House of Representatives could remove nearly $2 million annually from Lemont schools. As the superintendent of one of your local school districts, it is my responsibility to educate you about this potential legislative action, the repercussions that it would have on school district budgets, and most importantly, the impact it would have on the students that we serve. Registration now open for spring semester ACT prep classes at Lemont

10/27/2011

Beginning in January, Lemont High School will offer ACT 36, an eight-week test preparation program designed to familiarize students with the ACT, which all of the school’s juniors will take on April 24, 2011, as part of the PSAE Exam.

The course, which costs $290 for the eight sessions, is open to all Lemont High School juniors, as well as juniors from other area schools. Lemont High School students who have perfect attendance at the end of the program will receive a $50 rebate on the cost of their registration. The rebate only will be issued to Lemont High School students. Students who miss a course due to illness or an extra-curricular conflict may make up the missed class and still be eligible for the rebate.

Students may choose between two eight-week programs, each of which consists of two-hour weekly sessions that run from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Lemont High School. The first session begins on Monday, January 23, 2012, and will meet each Monday through March 19, except for February 20 (Presidents’ Day) and March 5 (Casimir Pulaski Day). The second session will meet on Wednesdays, beginning on February 1 and ending on March 21. Students in both sessions will take a Practice ACT, having the option of either Wednesday, March 14 (5:30-9 p.m.), or Saturday, March 17 (8:30 a.m.-12 p.m.) to take the exam.

Information packets have been mailed to the parents of current Lemont High School juniors. The deadline to register for one of the school’s two ACT 36 programs is Friday, December 9. Enrollment is guaranteed to all students who register by the deadline.

The goal of ACT 36 is to give students the confidence, strategies and content necessary to score their personal best on the ACT. The course does this by familiarizing students with the elements of the ACT, from content and timing to pacing and strategies. The course also reviews difficult concepts, specifically in English and mathematics, and allows students an opportunity to take a practice exam. All ACT 36 instructors are carefully trained and certified.
