Lemont High School senior outfielder Alexis Valone
has signed a National Letter of Intent to play college softball at Bowling Green State University beginning in 2013.
Valone has been a force in the middle of Lemont’s line-up for each of the last two seasons, and is expected to be a big part of the team’s offensive production this spring. Head coach Chris Traina’s
Indians have posted a 50-19 record and won consecutive IHSA Regional titles over the last two years. Valone is a career .379 hitter who has hit nine home runs, driven in 66 runs, scored 56 runs, and been successful on 17-of-18 stolen base attempts.
In her first varsity season, Valone batted .412 with four home runs and 33 RBIs in 2010. She led the team with five triples, and 18 of her 42 hits went for extra bases (nine doubles, five triples, four home runs). She ranked third on the squad in batting average, second with a .716 slugging percentage, and was perfect on nine stolen base attempts. The Indians went 24-11 in 2010 and captured an IHSA Regional title.
Despite teams pitching around her more - her walks total more than doubled from seven in 2010 to 16 in 2011 - Valone didn’t miss a beat in 2011. She batted .344 with five home runs and 33 RBIs on her way to All-South Suburban Conference honors. Nearly half of her 32 hits went for extra bases, and she ranked second on the team both in triples (four) and home runs (five). Her. 656 slugging percentage was third on the team, and she added eight stolen bases. Lemont went 26-8 and repeated as an IHSA Regional champion.
A member of the Lemont Rockers club softball program and a high honor roll student, Valone will play for head coach Shannon Salsburg
at Bowling Green State, which is located in Bowling Green, Ohio, and is a member of the Mid-American Conference. The Falcons have posted a 90-130 record over Salsburg’s five seasons, including a 12-32 mark (6-15 MAC) in 2011. Bowling Green State’s finest season under Salsburg’s direction was her first, when the squad went 33-12 in 2007.
