Lemont’s Alyssa Stube to play college softball at Cardinal Stritch
|Lemont senior Alyssa Stube is joined by coach Chris Traina as they celebrate Stube's signing with Cardinal Stritch University.
Lemont High School senior infielder/outfielder Alyssa Stube
has committed to playing college softball at Cardinal Stritch University beginning in 2013. Stube is the second Lemont softball player this year to announce her college plans; outfielder Alexis Valone
signed a National Letter-of-Intent with Bowling Green State University in the fall.
Stube has played at least parts of two seasons on head coach Chris Traina’s
varsity squad, and is expected to play a major role in the team’s success this spring. The Indians have posted a 50-19 record and won consecutive IHSA Regional titles over the last two years. Stube is a career .286 hitter who has scored 20 runs, driven in 17 runs, and posted an on-base percentage of .402 over two seasons.
Stube received her first extensive varsity playing time as a junior in 2011, hitting .258 with 14 runs batted in and 11 runs scored. She collected four doubles, walked more than she struck out (10 BB’s, 7 K’s), and was perfect on three stolen base attempts. Lemont went 26-8 and repeated as an IHSA Regional champion.
Stube had limited playing time on the varsity squad as a sophomore in 2010, but made the most of those opportunities. She hit .455 (5-11) with a triple, and scored nine runs, many as a pinch-runner.
Stube is the second member of her family in the last three years to move on from Lemont to play college softball. Her sister Ashley, a 2010 Lemont graduate, is a sophomore outfielder at Iowa Wesleyan College.
A member of the Lemont Sizzlers club softball program and a high honor roll student, Stube will play for head coach Jade Geuther
at Cardinal Stritch, an NAIA institution located in Milwaukee, Wis., and a member of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC). The 2012 season will be Geuther’s first season heading the Cardinal Stritch program. The Wolves were 8-21 in 2011, and had five CCAC All-Academic Team honorees.
