Lemont’s Amber Trick cited to IHSA All-State Academic honorable mention squad

4/19/2012

Lemont High School senior Amber Trick, a standout performer in girls' cross country and girls' soccer, has been tabbed as an IHSA All-State Academic honorable mention selection.

Lemont High School senior Amber Trick has been named as an honorable mention selection to the 2012 IHSA All-State Academic Team, sponsored by Caterpillar. More than 450 student-athletes from across the state were nominated by their schools for IHSA All-State Academic honors, and less than 20 percent of those nominees were chosen to receive all-state or honorable mention accolades.

The IHSA’s 2011-12 All-State Academic Team includes 26 student-athletes - 13 male and 13 female - who embody what it means to take advantage of the entire high school experience. In addition to those 26 honored students, 50 more are tabbed as honorable mention picks.

Trick has excelled both in and out of the classroom during her tenure at Lemont High School. She helped head coach Tim Plotke’s teams to four consecutive berths in the IHSA Class 2A Girls’ Cross Country State Finals appearances, becoming the first Lemont cross country runner to appear in four state finals events. She is in her third season on the varsity girls’ soccer squad, and helped head coach Rick Prangen’s Indians to a third-place finish at the 2011 IHSA Class 2A State Finals.

In the classroom, Trick ranks among the top five percent of her class, and has reached that level of success while taking a challenging academic course load littered with honors level and Advanced Placement classes. She was a part of state-qualifying Mathletes squads as a freshman, sophomore and junior; is a member of the National Honor Society, National French Honor Society, and the Mu Alpha Theta mathematics honor society; and was tabbed as an Illinois State Scholar.

Every IHSA member school is invited to nominate one female student and one male student for consideration. Nominees must possess a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average; have participated in at least two IHSA sponsored sports or activities as juniors and seniors; and demonstrated outstanding citizenship.

Nominations are evaluated by a committee comprised of IHSA principals, representatives of the Illinois Activities Directors Association and representatives of the Illinois Athletic Directors Association. One male winner and one female winner from each of the seven IHSA Board of Directors Divisions are selected initially, while the final 12 spots on the All-State Academic Team were then rounded out with at-large candidates from anywhere in the state.
