From July 18-20, hundreds of people attended Little Mountain Community Theatre’s debut production, “The Wizard of Oz.” The show was very entertaining and brought together people – including the actors, musicians, crew, and the audience itself – from a variety of surrounding communities to Lemont High School’s Performing Arts Center. This 850+ seat venue truly belongs to the community. Since opening in Spring 2008, it has played host to a range of events, ranging from concerts to park district events to Lemont High School theater and music productions. Read More

Lemont High School District 210 Director of Special Education Services Dr. Christine Flores is the recipient of the 2012 Illinois Alliance of Administrators of Special Education (IAASE) Larry D. Vuillemot Leadership Award.

Lemont High School District 210 Director of Special Education Services Dr. Christine Flores has been named the recipient of the 2012 Illinois Alliance of Administrators of Special Education (IAASE) Larry D. Vuillemot Leadership Award. Flores was presented with the award on September 20 at the 2012 IAASE Annual Fall Conference, which was held at the Tinley Park Convention Center.

The IAASE annually honors a member with the Vuillemot Leadership Award, which first was presented in 1991. Award winners must have held an elected office on the IAASE Executive Board, exhibit outstanding leadership ability within the organization, and show a commitment to high professional standards. In addition, honorees show strong loyalty to colleagues and the IAASE; demonstrate extraordinary concern for the development of special education leadership talent; continuously strive to develop a plan for the future of special education; commit to the development and implementation of quality programs and services; and exhibit concern for the needs of others.

Flores has enjoyed a highly successful and decorated career of more than 25 years in the field of special education. Her award presenter - James Gunnell, Past President of the IAASE - noted the respect that Flores has among her colleagues both locally and at the state level, and lauded her positive attitude, professionalism, insight, and willingness to work for the greater good of special education.

Flores has been active in the IAASE since 1996. She has served both as a region representative and as Secretary of the IAASE Executive Board, and still is a member of the IAASE Executive Board. She has served as a member of several IAASE committees, and also also has worked as the IAASE’s liaison to several organizations, including the Illinois Speech-Language and Hearing Association, Illinois Special Education Leadership Academy and the Illinois Association of School Boards. She also has represented the IAASE on multiple Illinois State Board of Education committees and task forces.

Flores has served as District 210’s Director of Special Education Services since 2008. Prior to that, she spent 13 years with the Southwest Cook County Association for Special Education (SWCCCASE), of which Lemont High School is a member. She served both as a program supervisor and assistant director during her tenure at SWCCCASE, As the assistant director, she oversaw all programs and services offered by the organization, among many other duties.

An accomplished speaker and facilitator, Flores has served as a guest instructor at both St. Xavier University and the University of Illinois-Chicago, and also has served as an instructor at Lewis University.

Flores earned bachelor’s (1986) and masters (1987) degrees in Communication Disorders from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She received certificates in advanced studies from Lewis University (School Leadership) and Illinois State University (Director of Special Education) in 1998 and 2007, respectively. Earlier this year, she earned a Doctorate in Special Education from Illinois State. Flores and her family live in Plainfield, Ill.
