What started as a modest fundraising effort by three Lemont High School students – juniors Hope Conway, Olivia Matthews and Jenna Molaro – ultimately resulted in hundreds of Lemont students actively engaged in a humanitarian effort and tens of thousands of meals being shipped to a country across the world devastated by an earthquake. Their yearlong “Food Fight” fundraiser culminated with more than 65,000 meals being sent to Nepal through the non-profit organization Impact Lives. Read More

Lemont’s Bridget Lynn advances to IHSA Class AA Girls’ Golf State Finals

Lemont junior Bridget Lynn qualified to compete at the 2012 IHSA Class AA Girls' Golf State Finals, thanks to her performance in sectional play.

For the second straight year, Lemont High School’s girls’ golf program will be represented in state finals competition. Thanks to her performance at the IHSA Marian Catholic Sectional, junior Bridget Lynn will compete at the 2012 IHSA Class AA Girls’ Golf State Finals, which will be contested on Friday, October 12, and Saturday, October 13, at Hickory Point Golf Course in Decatur. Lynn is the second Lemont student-athlete in as many seasons to advance to the girls’ golf state finals, and the third in the program’s history.

At the IHSA Marian Catholic Sectional, Lynn fired an 81 at the par-71 Coyote Run Golf Course in Flossmoor. She tied for 14th among all golfers, and was among the top 10 individuals from non-advancing teams at the sectional, which earned her a state finals berth.

Hinsdale Central shot a team score of 316 to win the IHSA Sectional title. Lincoln-Way East (342) and Lyons Township (344) finished second and third, respectively. The top three teams from each of the IHSA’s four Class AA Sectionals advanced to state finals competition, along with the top 10 individuals from schools that did not qualify for state finals team competition.

Head coach Bill Mondrella’s squad finished fifth of 11 teams at the IHSA Naperville Regional on October 3, but both Lynn and senior Nadya Cortes advanced from the regional as individuals. Lynn shot an 89 at the par-72 Springbrook Golf Course in Naperville, while Cortes finished a couple of strokes better with an 87.

Lynn’s state finals berth will cap an outstanding season. She earned medalist finishes in several events, including the inaugural South Suburban Conference championship, in which she shot an 82 to guide the Indians to the team title.

Chantelle Mika ‘99 was the first Lemont girls’ golfer to qualify for state finals competition; she tied for 13th at the 1997 IHSA Girls’ Golf State Finals. Emily Lejman ‘12 competed at the 2011 IHSA Class AA Girls’ Golf State Finals.

The IHSA Class AA State Finals will tee off at 8:30 a.m. on October 12, and will conclude on October 13. Hickory Point Golf Course is located at 727 Weaver Road in Decatur. Hickory Point is a 5,779-yard, par-72 course.

Girls’ golf is the first program to represent Lemont High School in IHSA State Finals competition this year.
