Lemont High School’s boys’ and girls’ cross country programs each will represent the school in state finals competition this year. Thanks to their performances at the IHSA Class 2A Wheaton Academy Sectional, sophomore Victoria Salazar
and freshman Claire Gagen
advanced to the girls’ state finals, while senior Aaron Oldanie
qualified as an individual in the boys’ race. The trio will compete in the 2012 IHSA Class 2A State Finals, which will be contested on Saturday, November 3, at Detweiller Park in Peoria.
At the IHSA Wheaton Academy Sectional - which was contested at Reed-Keppler Park in West Chicago - Lemont finished seventh of 12 teams in the boys’ event, while the girls’ squad - which had qualified for team state finals competition five straight seasons - was sixth of 12 teams.
Both the boys’ and girls’ squads were close to earning team berths to the 2012 IHSA State Finals. The top five teams from each of four Class 2A sectionals from around the state, as well as the top seven finishers from schools that did not qualify for team competition, qualify for state finals competition in boys’ and girls’ cross country.
