Lemont’s National Honor Society bringing “Teens for Jeans” fundraiser to campus

2/3/2015

Over the next couple of weeks, Lemont High School’s chapter of the National Honor Society will host a local drive for “Teens for Jeans” - the largest jeans drive in the nation.

The National Honor Society will be collecting gently used jeans during all lunch periods through Friday, February 13; at the door at the school’s MORP dance on Saturday, February 7; and at the door each night of the school’s Winter Play, which will run from Thursday, February 12, through Saturday, February 14.

“Teens for Jeans” benefits kids living in homeless shelters across the United States. Through drives in schools and communities, young people collect gently used jeans to drop off at their local Aeropostale store. Each store is paired with a local homeless shelter or charity, which in turn distributes the jeans to young people in need.

More than 1,000 shelters across the United States and Canada participated last year, and 4.3 million pairs of jeans have been donated over the last seven years.

The National Honor Society recognizes students who demonstrate scholarship, leadership, character and service. Students may be chosen for membership during their junior or senior years. The National Honor Society co-sponsors are English teacher Marek Dron and counselor Andrea Heinz.
