May 20,13 Lemont boys’ tennis wins first-ever IHSA Sectional crown; three qualify for state

For several years, head coach Jon DeGuzman’s Lemont High School boys’ tennis program has been knocking on the door of the program’s first sectional title, but now that wait is over. On the strength of two state-qualifying performances and contributions from several others, Lemont’s boys’ tennis captured its first-ever team crown at the IHSA Joliet West Sectional. Sophomore singles standout Nick Urban and the doubles tandem of seniors Jake Smagacz and Alex Vasic finished among the top three in their respective flights to qualify for the 2013 IHSA Boys’ Tennis State Finals, which will be contested from May 23-25 and hosted by High School Districts 211 and 214. May 15,13 Lemont’s Justin Stanwyck earns second medal at 2013 WYSE Academic Challenge

For the second straight year, Lemont High School senior Justin Stanwyck proved to be among the top competitors in his field in the state’s top science and engineering competition. Stanwyck tied for fifth in the Engineering Graphics competition at the 2013 Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE) Academic Challenge State Finals, which was held in April on the campus of the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
