From July 18-20, hundreds of people attended Little Mountain Community Theatre’s debut production, “The Wizard of Oz.” The show was very entertaining and brought together people – including the actors, musicians, crew, and the audience itself – from a variety of surrounding communities to Lemont High School’s Performing Arts Center. This 850+ seat venue truly belongs to the community. Since opening in Spring 2008, it has played host to a range of events, ranging from concerts to park district events to Lemont High School theater and music productions. Read More

Lemont High School’s baseball team capped what already was the most successful season in school history in heartstopping fashion. Senior center fielder Ryan Folliard’s two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh gave head coach Brian Storako’s Indians a 2-1 victory over Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin in the 2014 IHSA Class 3A Baseball State Championship at Silver Cross Field in Joliet. Senior catcher Mike Papierski doubled, homered and drove in four runs while senior pitcher Charlie Wright overcame a tough first inning to go the distance, and the Lemont High School baseball team topped Metamora, 8-3, in the first IHSA Class 3A State Semifinal at Silver Cross Field in Joliet on Friday, June 13. Head coach Brian Storako’s Indians, who improved to 34-5 on the season, will face Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin in the 2014 IHSA Class 3A State Championship at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 14. Lemont High School’s baseball program has achieved many firsts this season, and with an 11-1 super-sectional victory over De La Salle at Crestwood’s Standard Bank Stadium on June 9, head coach Brian Storako’s squad came one step closer to its ultimate goal of capturing a state championship. Riding an outstanding performance on the mound from senior Jake Latz and strong efforts at the plate from seniors Mike Papierski and Mike Wisz, the Indians advanced to the IHSA Class 3A Baseball State Finals, which will be contested at Silver Cross Field in Joliet on Friday, June 13, and Saturday, June 14. The Lemont High School Educational Foundation has committed to supporting 12 grants for more than $56,000 for the 2014-15 school year. Grant proposals were submitted by Lemont High School faculty and staff, with the goal of enhancing educational opportunities for the school’s enrollment of more than 1,450 students. This year’s total is the largest amount the LHSEF has supported in one grants cycle since its inception in 2007. Read More

Each year, I can’t wait for spring to arrive because schools buzz with activity as the year draws to a close. Within just a week’s time recently, Lemont High School featured its spring musical – “Guys and Dolls” – for three nights, honored the Class of 2014’s top performers at its annual Senior Honors Night, and armed nearly 340 graduates with diplomas as they prepare to tackle their futures. Lemont High School junior Nick Urban already was the first tennis player in school history to finish among the state’s top 32 singles players in state finals competition, having done so as both a freshman and sophomore in 2012 and 2013, respectively. However, Urban went a step further at the 2014 IHSA Boys’ Tennis State Finals, which were contested from May 29-31 and hosted by High School Districts 211 and 214. Urban finished with a 4-2 record and by advancing to the sixth consolation round, was one of the top 24 singles players in the state. Senior Joe Ziebell and junior Nathaniel Burner posted a 1-2 record in doubles play. Lemont has sent a representative to state finals play nine straight years. Read More

In her four seasons at Lemont High School, Jessica Urban ‘10 made three state finals appearances before becoming a four-time all-conference player at the college level. However, in terms of state finals trips, she no longer has family bragging rights all to herself. Junior Nick Urban and the doubles tandem of senior Joe Ziebell and junior Nathaniel Burner each finished third in their respective flights at the IHSA Joliet West Sectional on May 24. The trio will compete at the 2014 IHSA Boys’ Tennis State Finals, which will be contested from May 29-31 and hosted by High School Districts 211 and 214. Lemont has sent a representative to state finals play nine straight years. Head coach Jon DeGuzman’s team just missed its second straight IHSA Sectional crown, falling short by two points to sectional titlist Joliet Catholic. Read More
