Lemont High School senior Olivia Matthews earned top honors within her officer division at the 2016 Chicagoland Junior Achievement competition, which recently was held at Robert Morris University’s downtown Chicago campus. Thought it missed out on bringing home at least one medalist finish for the first time in five years, Lemont High School’s contingent performed well at the 2016 Worldwide Youth in Science & Engineering (WYSE) Academic Challenge State Finals, which were contested on April 12 on the campus of the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Head coach Tim Leffler’s squad finished 11th among all teams in Division 1500 (enrollments of 701-1500 students). Read More

Thanks to top-20 finishes in eight of 12 categories, Lemont High School’s Mathletes team placed 13th in the team standings at the 2016 Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) Division 3AA State Finals, which were contested on May 7 on the campus of the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Lemont now has finished among the top 20 teams in its division nine times in 10 years, including 11th-place finishes in 2007 and 2013. Read More

For the second straight year, Lemont High School’s Technology Student Association brought home multiple medals from the state’s top drafting competition. Seniors Dan Garczek and Matt Lassak earned third-place finishes in their respective categories at the Illinois Drafting Educators Association (IDEA) State Drafting Competition, which was held on April 16 on the campus of Illinois State University. Summer vacation is going to be a little different for Lemont High School sophomore Emma Potts. She has been awarded a National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) scholarship, which will enable her to study Korean in South Korea this summer. The NSLI-Y program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. Read More

Lemont High School junior Heather Miller set a new bar for future students at the 2016 IHSA Journalism State Finals, which were contested on the campus of Eastern Illinois University on April 29. Miller became the first Lemont student to earn state medals in multiple events in the same year, and also became just the second student in school history to win a state championship in journalism competition. With senior Reanna Comiso also earning a medal, Lemont brought home a single-season school record three medals from the 2016 IHSA State Finals. Read More
