Lemont places 20th in team standings at 2022 ICTM Class 3AA State Finals

Lemont placed 20th among 57 teams at the 2022 Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) Division 3AA State Finals, which were contested virtually this spring. The team posted top 20 finishes in two events.

The team’s top finish in state finals competition came in the Pre-Calculus Written Team competition, where seniors Christopher Sojka, Jacob TerMaat, Molly Thornber, Nathan Valyaneth, Isabella Wilton and Annette Winterland combined for a 17th-place finish.

The Algebra I Written Team, which included freshmen Juliana Duran, Alexander Lazarowicz, Vikram Oberai, Om Patel, Leonardo Rafacz and Nora Thornber, was 20th in its competition.

Sojka was the top individual finisher in state finals competition, placing 35th in Pre-Calculus.

Lemont placed second among all teams in its regional, with both the Algebra I Written Team and Algebra II Written Team squads earning first-place finishes.

Twelve competitors posted top-five individual finishes in regional competition. Wilton (Pre-Calculus), Nora Thornber (Algebra I) and sophomore Anthony Scruggs (Geometry) won their categories. Sojka (Pre-Calculus) was the runner-up in his competition, while Lazarowicz and Rafacz (Algebra I) and sophomores Ryan Geraghty and Vedika Patel (Geometry) tied for second in theirs. Om Patel (Algebra I) and Winterland (Pre-Calculus) earned fourth-place finishes, while Duran and Oberai (Algebra I) tied for fifth.
