2024 IHSA Boys' Tennis State Qualifiers

After sending a full contingent to the state finals for just the second time in program history, Lemont High School’s boys’ tennis team posted the program’s best finish in the team standings. Head coach Jon DeGuzman’s team tied for 12th at the 2024 IHSA Class A Boys’ Tennis State Finals, which were contested from May 23-25 and hosted by Palatine High School. Lemont was represented at the boys’ tennis state finals for the 17th time in 18 seasons.

Each of Lemont’s four state finals entries won at least one match. Seniors Ethan Bator and Shokhrukh Muradov each were making their second straight appearances in the singles competition at the state finals. Each finished the event with one win and two losses, with each of those wins coming in the first consolation round.

The doubles tandem of senior Rehan Saraiya and junior Sean Svoboda put forth Lemont’s top performance at the event, as they combined to win three of five matches and advanced to the fourth consolation round. Juniors Aditya Oberai and Vikram Oberai split four matches and reached the third consolation round. Both of Lemont’s doubles entries won their opening round contests.

Prior to this year, Lemont’s previous best finish in the team standings was a tie for 16th at the 2017 IHSA Class A State Finals. That year also marked the first time in program history Lemont advanced two singles and two doubles qualifiers to the state finals.

Lemont’s state finals qualifiers earned their berths by placing among the top four in their respective competitions at the IHSA Joliet Catholic Sectional. Bator and Muradov were second and fourth, respectively, in singles competition, while Saraiya and Svoboda topped their teammates in the championship match in doubles. Lemont won the program’s third IHSA Sectional title.

Bator finished the season with a 16-9 record and won the No. 1 singles flight in the South Suburban Conference. Muradov was 18-6 and won the SSC’s No. 2 singles flight. Saraiya and Svoboda enjoyed an outstanding season, winning the SSC’s No. 1 doubles flight and posting a 27-4 record. The Oberais captured the SSC’s No. 2 doubles flight and were 23-8 overall. Lemont went 18-4 overall and won the SSC Blue Division title.

Lemont has won 16 SSC Blue titles in 17 seasons (2007-18, 2021-24). It also has advanced competitors to the IHSA State Finals 17 times since 2006 (2006-17, 2019, 2021-24), and won IHSA Sectional titles in both 2013, 2017 and 2024.
