For the 14th time in the last 15 seasons, Lemont High School’s boys’ tennis program will be represented in state finals competition. The doubles tandem of juniors Safin Saraiya and Nathan Svoboda placed fourth at the IHSA Hinsdale South Sectional on June 5 to earn a berth to the 2021 IHSA Class A Boys’ Tennis State Finals, which will be contested from June 10-12 and hosted by Districts 211, 214 and 220.
Saraiya and Svoboda each will make his state finals debut. They teamed for straight sets wins in the first two rounds of sectional competition before ultimately settling for a fourth-place finish. They enter the state finals with a 15-4 record, which includes a spotless 4-0 record in conference play.
Saraiya and Svoboda placed first in the No. 1 doubles flight as Lemont swept the top spots at the 2021 South Suburban Conference-Blue Division Meet, marking the program’s 13th SSC Blue title in 14 seasons (2007-18, 2021) under head coach Jon DeGuzman. Lemont posted a 10-6 record in dual matches this season, including a 5-0 mark in SSC play.
Lemont advanced competitors to the IHSA State Finals each season from 2006-17 and in 2019, and won IHSA Sectional titles in both 2013 and 2017.
