Lemont qualifies three for 2025 IHSA Class 3A Girls’ Track & Field State Finals

(L-R): Niki Tselios, Hannah Farley, Maya Fedko, Cassie Cunningham, Ashley Wrublik

For just the fifth time in program history – and the first time since 2014 – Lemont High School’s girls’ track and field team advanced three qualifiers to the state finals. Seniors Niki Tselios and Ashley Wrublik, juniors Cassie Cunningham and Maya Fedko, and freshman Hannah Farley all competed at the 2025 IHSA Class 3A Girls’ Track & Field State Finals, which were contested from May 23-24 at O’Brien Stadium on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.

Wrublik is the first student-athlete in program history to earn multiple state finals berths in the shot put, and advanced to the event’s final round for the second straight season. Her final attempt in the first round was 38’01.25”, which placed her fifth in the preliminaries and made her one of 12 to move on to the final round. That mark ultimately placed her 10th overall in the event; she was 11th in the shot put in 2024.

Making her track and field state finals debut, Tselios posted a school-record time of 5:06.68 in the preliminary round of the 1600 meter run. She shaved more than five seconds off of her previous best time and placed 17th in the event. She is just the second Lemont runner to compete in the 1600 meters at the state finals, and the first since 1998.

Tselios, Cunningham, Fedko and Farley became the first quartet in program history to qualify for the 4 x 800 meter relay. They finished 27th in the preliminary round in a time of 9:49:10.

Lemont’s state finals entries earned their berths thanks to their efforts at the IHSA Lockport Sectional on May 14. Wrublik finished as the sectional runner-up and exceeded the IHSA qualifying standard with a throw of 39’01.00”, while Tselios was the runner-up in the 1600 meter run. The 4 x 800 relay team placed fourth at the sectional in a school-record time of 9:34.74, eclipsing the IHSA qualifying standard.

Tselios, Wrublik, and the 4 x 800 meter relay team all won their respective events at the 2025 South Suburban Conference-Blue Division meet, as head coach Tim Plotke’s team captured the SSC Blue title.

Lemont’s best girls’ track and field state finals finish came in 2014 when Vika Marmaite finished as the IHSA Class 3A runner-up in the triple jump. Other state medalists have included Elissa Bitterman ‘12 (High Jump - 7th, Class 2A, 2010), Jacque Desmond ‘15 (Pole Vault - 6th, Class 3A, 2014), Nikole Hoster ‘98 (1600 meter run - 8th, Class AA, 1997), Kaylie Politza (800 meter run - 9th, Class 3A, 2019) and Jessica Semenic ‘98 (100 meter hurdles - 8th, Class 2A, 1997).
