Young Hearts for Life to provide free cardiac screenings for Lemont students

Yh4L

With the support of generous donors, Lemont High School again is partnering with Young Hearts for Life to offer all Lemont High School students free cardiac screenings. The Young Hearts for Life (YH4L) Cardiac Screening program will visit Lemont High School on Tuesday, April 28. All students whose parents/guardians authorize them to be tested will be screened during the school day. These free screenings are made possible through the generosity of event sponsors the just1mike and Mend A Heart foundations, as well as Young Hearts for Life donors.

Young Hearts for Life is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides free cardiac screenings through an electrocardiogram (i.e., ECG). More than 350,000 students have been screened since the inception of the Young Hearts for Life program in 2006, and more than 3,600 previously undiagnosed heart conditions have been identified. Lemont High School has had more than 5,300 students receive free screenings in its first six YH4L events!

A simple, painless ECG can be used to screen physically active students and detect approximately 70 percent of the heart conditions that are associated with sudden cardiac arrest, while a pre-participation physical only can detect 4 percent of these conditions. Repeat ECG testing is recommended every two years through the age of 25.

REGISTRATION
Parents/guardians are encouraged to discuss ECG screenings with their children. This program is open to all students - athletes and non-athletes, alike - and students’ confidentiality, privacy and modesty will be respected throughout all aspects of the program. Boys and girls will be screened in separate areas, and results will be shared ONLY with parents. No one at Lemont High School will have access to the results of these screenings.

Parents/guardians who wish to register their children should click the link at the top of this page. (Note: Parents/guardians should use their child(ren)'s school-issued, five-digit ID as the 'Student ID' when prompted. It is the same number students use for cafeteria purchases.)

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Lemont High School and YH4L are seeking adult volunteers to assist with ECG screenings. Many types of volunteer positions are available; volunteers do not need to have a medical background.

Volunteers are needed for two shifts on April 28. Volunteer training is mandatory, and will be held during the evening on Monday, April 27.

Those interested in volunteering should click the link at the top of this page. Individuals who have questions about volunteering may contact volunteer coordinator Kim Mardjetko via email.
