District 210 Board of Education earns IASB School Board Governance Recognition

District 210 Board of Education

The Lemont High School District 210 Board of Education has been recognized for its exceptional governance practices by the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB). It was one of just 46 to earn the IASB’s 2024 School Board Governance Recognition designation. This honor, which the District 210 Board of Education will carry for two years, celebrates school boards that engage in activities and model behaviors that lead to excellence in local school governance.

Recipients of this recognition demonstrate a commitment toward obtaining the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively lead the district. The School Board Governance Recognition program acknowledges boards of education that practice good governance behaviors, as outlined by IASB’s Foundational Principles of Effective Governance, with a specific focus on full board development and participation.

The District 210 Board of Education includes President Kurt Korte, Vice President Lynn Antonopoulos, Secretary Mike Kardas, and members Pam Driscoll, Gary Gray, Renée Koehler and Beverly Marzec.

“I am thrilled the Lemont High School District 210 Board of Education has received this recognition from the Illinois Association of School Boards,” District 210 Superintendent Dr. Mary Ticknor said. “This did not come as a surprise to me, however, because throughout my tenure, I have admired the commitment each board member has shown to ensuring their actions and their own ongoing education support continuous improvement at Lemont High School.”

The School Board Governance Recognition program aims to showcase school boards that positively impact students, staff, and the entire district community. It provides an opportunity for districts to tell their story about programs and projects that improve outcomes in their local school districts and offers board members a chance to highlight how continuous learning, both by individual board members and the full board, results in improved governance for the board of education and positive outcomes for the district.

“Each of us who serves on the District 210 Board of Education understands what a privilege and responsibility it is to serve in this role,” Korte said. “We are honored to be part of the Lemont High School community, and are proud of the strides the school has taken in campus safety and security, curriculum development, financial forecasting, and facilities planning, among many other areas.

“This recognition from the Illinois Association of School Boards affirms we are on the right track as we work with school administrators to make decisions that will set up Lemont High School for success now and in the future.”

The Illinois Association of School Boards is a voluntary organization of local boards of education dedicated to strengthening public schools through local citizen control.
