For the first time since 2016, Lemont High School will be represented in the main event at the country’s largest statewide theatre festival. Junior Julia Macari will be part of the cast for the 2025 Illinois High School Theatre Festival All-State Production, The Prom.
The Illinois High School Theatre Festival will be held from January 9-11 on the campus of the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. The All-State Production will be performed five times over three days in front of more than 3,000 theater students from across the state.
No stranger to Lemont High School’s stage, Macari will fill the role of Angie, which is one of the eight lead roles in The Prom. More than 300 students auditioned to be part of the cast, with just 40 selected. The Prom will be directed by Hinsdale South High School’s Danny Yuska, and produced by Deerfield High School’s Britnee Kenyon and Homewood-Flossmoor High School’s J.R. Willard-Rose.
Macari was part of the cast of Lemont’s production of The Carol Burnett Show, which was selected to be part of the 2024 Illinois High School Theatre Festival.
Macari is the first Lemont student in nearly a decade to have a hand in the All-State Production. The school’s previous participants have included Emily Lyons ‘10 (‘Pennywise’ in Urinetown in 2010), Kevin Goffard ‘11 (technical crew, Into the Woods in 2011), Aubree Tally ‘13 (‘The Giant’s Wife’ in Into the Woods in 2011), Kevin Driscoll ‘12 (‘East’ in Almost, Maine in 2012), and Kevin Troy ‘16 (technical crew, Rent in 2016).
The All-State Production will be one of many events at the 49th Annual Illinois High School Theatre Festival, the largest such event in the United States. The All-State Production brings together a company of students and staff from all areas of Illinois. The cast, crew and orchestra typically include more than 70 of the state’s top drama and music students. The students and staff involved put together the entire production with a limited number of rehearsals.
The Illinois High School Theatre Festival is an event produced by the Illinois Theatre Association, the representative theatre organization for the State of Illinois.
