Lemont High School’s Performing Arts Center will host a play with an important message about the power of sisterhood. The Lemont High School Drama Club’s winter play – “To See the Stars' – will be featured from Thursday, January 30, through Saturday, February 1. In conjunction with the winter play, the school’s Art Department will host its “Truth” art exhibition in Gallery 306.

The production of “To See the Stars” is set to run in the school’s Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. nightly. Tickets may be purchased at the door, and are $10 for adults and $7 for children, senior citizens and students with a valid school ID. Students, faculty and staff also may purchase tickets during lunch periods beginning Monday, January 27.

The exhibit in Gallery 306 will be open from 5:45-6:45 p.m. nightly prior to the performances of “To See the Stars,” and will spotlight a variety of outstanding work from Lemont High School students.

“To See the Stars” is set in New York early in the 20th century, While the shirtwaist industry bathes in tens of millions of dollars in profits, the young girls who work in the factories earn barely enough to live on and endure brutal working conditions. With their pleas for help from the male-dominated union ignored, the girls who work at Johannsen’s Shirtwaist Factory band together to fight for a better life. They endure beatings, starvation and even prison while leading the first industry-wide strike in American labor history, but begin to see themselves as fighters instead of victims while discovering the power of sisterhood.

“To See the Stars” will be performed under the direction of Paula Smith and Leslie Kane, while Brett Baleskie serves as the technical director and Matt Davis supervises the Theatre Technology classes involved in the production.

Those planning to attend any performance of “To See the Stars” may park in the school’s parking garage or in the lot outside the Performing Arts Center; both are accessible off of Julia Street.
