Lemont High School Career & Technical Education Department Chair Scott Duensing recently was named the recipient of the R. Tim Phillip Educator of the Year award by the Illinois Design Educators Association. The honor is the most prestigious awarded by the IDEA.
Each year, the IDEA solicits nominations for its Educator of the Year award, and the organization’s membership votes on the nominees. Duensing, who also was a finalist for the award in 2019, was nominated by another teacher in the state for his leadership in the career and technical education field and his outstanding merits in the classroom.
The award is named in honor of R. Tim Phillip, a teacher at Evanston Township High School who was awarded Educator of the Year honors posthumously in 1989 after passing away due to cancer.
Duensing joined Lemont High School’s faculty in 2001, and has served as the CTE Department Chair since 2016. He recently was reelected as Vice President of the IDEA Executive Board.
