Beginning in January, Lemont High School will offer SAT 1600, a test preparation program designed to familiarize students with the SAT. Registration has begun for SAT 1600, which is open to all Lemont High School juniors, as well as juniors from other area schools.
Students may choose between two seven-week programs, each of which consists of two-hour weekly sessions that run from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Lemont High School. The first session begins on Tuesday, January 31, and will meet each Tuesday through March 14. The second session will meet on Wednesdays from February 1 through March 15. Students in both sessions will take a Practice SAT during the week of March 6; that week’s session will run from 5:30-9 p.m.
The course costs $325 for the seven sessions, which includes the textbook and Practice SAT. Classes are held online if school is cancelled due to inclement weather or other circumstances.
The deadline to register for one of the school’s SAT 1600 programs is January 13 or once sections are filled. Students must register and pay online.
The goal of SAT 1600 is to give students the confidence, strategies and content necessary to score their personal best on the SAT. The course does this by familiarizing students with the elements of the SAT, from content and timing to pacing and strategies. The course also reviews difficult concepts, specifically in English and mathematics, and allows students an opportunity to take a practice exam. All SAT 1600 instructors are carefully trained and certified.
The Illinois State Board of Education mandates that all school districts participate in an annual statewide assessment. Lemont High School’s Class of 2024 will take the SAT on Wednesday, April 12.
