Dan Totura
Freshman
English

The English Department selected Dan Totura as the Freshman Student of the Month. Described as an academic and social leader in the classroom, Dan lists Accelerated Algebra II Honors, Cultural Geography and English as his favorite courses. His teachers note that he shines in class discussions and displays a conscientious work ethic. A middle school honor roll student, he was honored with the President’s Award for Educational Awareness and the Old Quarry Spirit Award. Dan hopes to participate in basketball or swimming, and has been involved with local Relay for Life efforts. He plans on maintaining his solid academic performance and becoming more involved with the community, but is undecided upon a career choice. In his spare time, Dan assists with his brother’s sports teams and enjoys spending time with friends.

Brian Hennig
Sophomore
Music

Brian Hennig was named the Sophomore Student of the Month by the Music Department. A high honor roll student, Brian lists Symphonic Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band and Business Management & Entrepreneurship as his favorite courses. His teachers note that he is willing to step forward and lead by example and can be counted upon to assist with any task that needs to be completed. Brian is a hard worker, which is evident in the fact that he earned second chair in Symphonic Band Honors as a freshman. He is also a member of the boys’ bowling team and enjoys hockey. In the future, he hopes to major in music in college, and may pursue a career in business. In his spare time, Brian is a hockey referee and enjoys backyard sports.

Jake Groselak
Junior
Science

The Science Department picked Jake Groselak as the Junior Student of the Month. Described by his instructors as a “classic science student,” Jake includes Biology, Chemistry and Physics among his favorite courses. The high honor roll student excels in all branches of science, showing great interest in the various subjects and displaying a solid work ethic. A successful member of the school’s Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE) squad, he was also a part of the state-qualifying boys’ golf team, which finished fifth in the 2009 Class 2A State Finals, and has played in the boys’ basketball program and been involved as a baseball player in the Lemont Little League. He hopes to pursue a career in health care, and in his spare time, enjoys playing sports with his brothers.

John Nelson
Senior
Learning Resource Center

John Nelson was tabbed as the Senior Student of the Month by the Learning Resource Center. John indicates that he greatly enjoys working in the Writing Center because he feels he is helping to improve the school by assisting other students. He has provided help in the LRC, lending a hand before or after school and working diligently to create an updated LRC floorplan. A high honor roll student, John is involved in several activities, ranging from the National Honor Society to the Drama Club. He has been recognized for his outstanding work on the tech crew for Performing Arts Center productions. John hopes to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and study architecture. He has already delved into the subject of library design, and his input on that subject will help the school for years to come. In his spare time, he enjoys running, swimming, working in Photoshop and hanging out with his friends.
