Charity: Feed My Starving Children

Gary Lin

Learning Resource Center

The Learning Resource Center selected Gary Lin as the Freshman Student of the Month. A high honor roll student, Gary says that he most enjoys Algebra II, Cultural Geography, English I and Health Education. His teachers note that he is very dedicated to his success, and spends most PLC mornings working in the LRC. His positive attitude shines through in his academic success. Gary speaks three languages, including Mandarin Chinese. He hopes to attend a good college, and wants to learn many things on his way toward reaching his goal of becoming an engineer. Gary has a number of interests outside of the classroom. He plays the trombone, enjoys performing magic, lifts weights, and likes playing basketball, ping pong and badminton with friends. He also works with his father during the summer to build cabinets.

Michelle Awad
Sophomore
Social Studies

Michelle Awad was picked as the Sophomore Student of the Month by the Social Studies Department. Michelle states that she greatly enjoys any English or Social Studies courses, and that she’s fascinated with the study of human interaction. A high honor roll performer, she is highly motivated and exceeds expectations in the classroom. She takes on leadership roles in group settings, and is an asset in class discussions. Michelle has received a number of individual honors as a participant on the school’s Speech Team, and recently was part of the Group Interpretation cast that finished fifth at the 2012 IHSA State Finals. She dreams of someday becoming a representative for UNICEF to be the voice of children who often are forgotten. In her free time, Michelle enjoys running and also volunteers with her church’s youth group.

Industrial Technology

The Industrial Technology Department chose Paul Rachwalski as the Junior Student of the Month. Paul is a high honor roll student whose academic interests include computer courses, Physics and Mathematics classes, including Accelerated Pre-Calculus Honors, in which he currently is enrolled. A natural leader, he is described by his instructors as a “team player” with outstanding character. Paul is an ideal example of an independent learner and a problem solver. He is involved in a number of extra-curricular activities, including Mathletes, National Honor Society, Junior Engineering Technical Society and the boys’ track and field program. Paul intends on pursuing a degree in computer science. In his spare time, he works as a cashier at Chipain’s, is working to become an Eagle Scout, and enjoys drawing and computer programming.
