Andrea Ojeda
Freshman
Learning Resource Center

Andrea Ojeda was selected as the Freshman Student of the Month by the Learning Resource Center. Andrea lists Introduction to Studio Art, English I and French I as her favorite classes. However, she has a wide range of academic interests, including literature, physiology and cryptozoology. Andrea is a daily visitor to the LRC, often asks for reading recommendations, and has read more books in the LRC collection than any student this year. Her pleasant demeanor is a valuable asset. As one might expect with her many academic pursuits, she has interest in exploring a career as a teacher, zoologist or hair stylist. In her spare time, Andrea enjoys reading, drawing and making star designs, as well as visiting a farm to tend to her family’s horse.

Kurt Bernabei
Sophomore
Social Studies

The Social Studies Department picked Kurt Bernabei as the Sophomore Student of the Month. A high honor roll student, Kurt’s favorite classes include Physical Education and Woods Technology I. Kurt is a member of the school’s wrestling program, and also is a defenseman for the Spartans Hockey Club. His teachers applaud him for being a diligent and hardworking student. Focused on his work, he seeks guidance when looking to grasp a new concept or skill. His analytical and writing skills have improved greatly this year, and he is a valuable asset in creating a respectful classroom environment. Kurt plans on attending college or a trade school after graduating from high school. In his free time, he has begun the search for a part-time job, and also enjoys playing video games.

Nour Efein
Junior
Industrial Technology

Nour Efein was cited as the Junior Student of the Month by the Industrial Technology Department. Nour states that she enjoys mathematics, and that she is looking forward to studying chemistry next year. She also has had great success in a couple of Industrial Technology courses, including Advanced CAD II Honors and Woods Technology I. In those classes, she has been a model student whose positive attitude and ever-present smile are infectious. Nour consistently gives her best effort and much to the appreciation of her instructors, does not complain. She has been part of the school’s girls’ soccer program in previous years, After high school, she plans on attending college. Outside of school, she works at a hair salon and enjoys reading and being around friends and family.

Tom Sahs
Senior
English

The English Department tabbed Tom Sahs as the Senior Student of the Month. A high honor roll student, Tom states that while he enjoys most core subjects, his favorite class is his Welding & Fabrication course at WILCO. Described as a well-rounded, exceptional student, Tom clearly values education and is a serious student in English literature. He exceeds expectations with his participation, work ethic and drive to help others. His analytical skills - both in classroom discussions and his writing - encourage others to think more critically. A member of the National Technical Honor Society, Tom plans on pursuing an associate’s degree in welding at Joliet Junior College. He enjoys volunteering, working out, playing hockey, relaxing with his family, and at least for a little while longer, not having a job.
