Morgan Cortes
Freshman
Learning Resource Center

Morgan Cortes was named the Freshman Student of the Month by the Learning Resource Center. Morgan’s favorite academic interests are algebra, geometry, English and science. The LRC staff applauds her for her love of reading, and says that she enthusiastically talks about any title that she’s reading. Morgan can be found in the LRC after school helping her classmates find good reads. A member of the Drama Club, she also has served on the Principal’s Student Advisory Board this year and has enjoyed making suggestions to help improve the school. She plans on getting involved with more extra-curricular activities in the coming years. Morgan intends on studying to become a nurse in college. In her free time, she is a member of her church’s youth group, and enjoys reading, coloring and doing word searches.

Paul O'Leary
Sophomore
Social Studies

The Social Studies Department cited Paul O’Leary as the Sophomore Student of the Month. A high honor roll student, Paul states that he most enjoys his classes in social studies and science. His teachers note that he is inquisitive and always comes ready to participate in an upbeat manner. Paul has established himself as a classroom leader who can take charge of a group when needed, or assist other students who may be struggling. A member of the boys’ basketball program, he also is involved with Mathletes, the Junior Engineering Technical Society, the Future Business Leaders of America, and the school’s Special Olympics program. Paul’s career ambitions range from making a living related to basketball, to becoming a criminal defense attorney or biomedical engineer. He enjoys video games, baseball and football.

Abby Magdziarz
Junior
Industrial Technology

Abby Magdziarz was picked as the Junior Student of the Month by the Industrial Technology Department. Abby is a high honor roll performer whose favorite classes include Spanish III Honors, Junior P.E. Leadership, and Advanced CAD II Honors. Dedicated and self-motivated, she is an ideal student because of her strong work ethic and desire to learn. Abby is a member of the girls’ cross country program, a National Honor Society inductee, a leader in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and an Illinois Drafting Educators Association state qualifier. She plans on pursuing a major in the medical field in college. In her spare time, Abby volunteers with an organization that assists Chicago’s inner-city students after school. She also serves as a nanny, and enjoys yoga, baking, running, and participating in mission trips.

Anastasia Leeberedes
Senior
English

The English Department tabbed Anastasia Leeberedes as the Senior Student of the Month. New to Lemont High School after transferring from Greece this year, Anastasia is an English Language Learner who quickly moved into English IV Academic. A high honor roll student, her favorite classes include Psychology, English IV and American Problems. Her teachers note that she contributes to the success of her fellow ELL students by serving as a peer tutor, and that she loves studying vocabulary and literature. Anastasia quickly became involved in the school’s fine arts program, as she is a member of the Drama Club, participates in the choir, and has competed in solo and ensemble vocal competitions. She hopes to pursue a career either as a family psychologist or teacher. In her spare time, Anastasia works part-time at a restaurant, and enjoys acting and modern and classical singing.
