A well-rounded student-athlete who shined in the classroom, in athletics, and in extra-curricular activities... earned three varsity letters in football and four in basketball... helped the 1945 football squad, coached by John Waesco, to a 6-1 record... tallied a team-leading 13 touchdowns that season, including three each in victories over Antioch and Marengo, and two each against Crete, Morris and Immaculate Conception... stood out on defense on the basketball squad... President of the Senior Class, Math Club and Honor Club... also served as Captain of the Hallguards, and was the Assistant Yearbook Editor... played the lead in the Senior Play - “A Case of Springtime” - in 1946... played football for four years at North Central College, helping the team to 19 wins from 1946-49, including back-to-back seven-win seasons in 1946 and 1947... enjoyed a 38-year career as a physical education, biology and general sciences teacher... coached baseball, basketball, football and track and field at the high school level, including 21 years as an assistant football coach at Downers Grove North High School.
