Athletic Hall of Fame: Marv Gonsiorowski
INDUCTED 2008
Long-time and highly respected teacher who also served as a coach and public address announcer... joined the Lemont High School faculty in 1970, and served as an instructor for 36 years before retiring at the conclusion of the 2005-06 school year... taught in both the Social Studies and Mathematics Departments during his tenure... “Friends of Basketball” inductee of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2004... served as the varsity football coach for 11 years (1979-89), and compiled a record of 51-51-0 during that time frame, which included five winning seasons... led Lemont to its first-ever IHSA Playoff appearance (against Luther North) in 1980... that squad won the Northeast Conference title, the school’s first since 1972, and also posted the program’s only win over Providence Catholic (7-0)... behind the duo of quarterback Tim Duda and receiver Jason Wilebski, Gonsiorowski guided the 1984 (7-2) and 1985 (7-4) squads to back-to-back seven-win seasons, which tied the single-season record for victories at the time... led the school to its first-ever IHSA Playoff win in 1985, a 20-12 triumph over Sandwich... served as an assistant football coach both before and after his varsity tenure, and also was an assistant coach for basketball and Mathletes... has served as the “voice” of Lemont boys’ basketball as the public address announcer... timer for boys’ and girls’ basketball for nearly three decades... in retirement, still volunteers his time working basketball and football games, as a member of the District 210 School and Community Relations Committee, and as a math tutor.
